The Atlantic Wall

The Atlantic Wall

This wall was built in 1943 during the Second World War by the Canadian troops as a replica of German Atlantic anti-tank defences. It was built to help learn techniques to breach it with explosives.

The Commemorative Plaque

This plaque is on the wall giving the details of its history.
Looking along the wall

Looking along the wall

The wall was in two sections with huge steel gates in between which have now long gone.
Behind the Atlantic wall

Behind the Atlantic wall

This wall is huge! It's approximately 100 metres long, 3 metres high and 3.5 metres wide. It's reinforced with steel rods and wire.
How big?

How big?

From down here you get a real feel for its size.

It's a piece of history which many people don't even know exists, but I think it should be kept and looked after for future generations to see.
