A view towards The Pit Village

This is the view to the pit village, here there is lots to see from a school, a chapel and a row of the old pit cottages where some of the employes would of lived back in the early 1900s.

To the right of this picture the road takes you on down to the area where the colliery yard is, with the steam locos working in the yard on the railway and the winding house standing tall waiting to take the miners down to the pit, it could take you righ back to when these buildings were being used for real.

All these buildings have been saved from different regions around the North East and brought here to Beamish to recreate this colliery scene. Fantastic.

There is also a recreation of a fish and chip shop which is open to the public for food and refreshments..Yummy!

Loco just coming out the station

Loco just coming out the station

The railway station is based on a typical station of around 1910, this is Rowley Station which was once near Consett in the North East.

We cannot recommend this museum enough, it was one of the best museums we have been to and we have been to alot!! Please if you are in the North East and can visit then don't miss it, a great day out for all the family. We will be back one day for sure, thanks Beamish...
