The South Devon Railway
Here are a few pictures of our trip on The South Devon Railway which runs from Totnes to Buckfastleigh, a 7 mile trip. A great time was had by all, we enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells. Great countryside, wonderful steam smell and the chuff of a loco what more could we want for a day out. And to finish off our day our dog Jess had a lovely swim in the River Dart.
The River Dart
Here we are walking across a bridge which will take us to the Station at the Totnes end of the steam railway. What a lovely setting, we had a nice walk along the river before we decided to go on the railway.
Ducks on the river
They were looking to see if we were going to feed them I think as soon as they knew we had nothing to give them they were off back down the river.
Loco 3205
3205 was built in1946 and work the lines till she was withdrawn from service in 1965. She was brought to Buckfastleigh later that year until she moved to The Severn Valley Railway in 1967. This is where she stayed for several years and until she moved to The West Somerset Railway.
In 1998 she came back to Buckfastleigh, she is the only survivor of her class left.
The sign on the station
The river and the sunshine
I took this picture from the train as we were chuffing through the lovely countryside and the sun was shining for us... Wonderful.
Looking out the carriage
What a great way to travel, here is the beautiful countryside, a river, a steam loco and a pretty bridge. You can also just see my youngest son Harry hanging out the window, that is where he spent the whole journey, all 7 miles!! He loved it.
River Dart at Buckfastleigh station
After the ride on the train time for our dog Jess to let off some steam and here in the station car park at Buckfastleigh there was a lovely area for walking or sitting and looking at the river. Jess couldn't just look, oh no, she had to jump in for a swim..
Watching Jess
He is the family watching Jess as they throw in sticks and she retrieves.
A beautiful butterfly
Could resist taking this picture of this pretty butterfly.
