Liss Forest, Liss. Hampshire

I took these photos around the village of Liss Forest, Hampshire.

Although it is next to the village of Liss the main Waterloo to Portsmonth railway line separates them.

Many of the road signs in the village are decorated with flowers of the season.

These next few photos were taken along what is known as River Side walk, linking Liss with Liss Forest along a very pretty walk. This walk used to be an old railway line going from the village of Liss to Longmoor military camp near Bordon, Hampshire. This line used to carry many soldiers but in 1971 it closed.

This is looking along the footpath towards Liss village.

This old railway was featured on a TV programme called "Along these lines" where the presenter walked the remains of the old line.

The river Rother runs along most of the path.

There are a few bridges on the walk which used to carry the large steam locos many years ago.

The bridge I am standing on is called Sheperds bridge. David Sheperd tried very hard to keep the line open and he kept many steam locos at the site for a time. Unfortunately, it was never to be and the line remained closed and the locos were removed.
