Chatsworth House and Grounds
So after a busy few weeks a new collection of photos, this week they are from Chatsworth House in Derbyshire where we spent a lovely day exploring the house and grounds... Enjoy..
As it's the start of the year Steam and Country Cam would like to wish you a very happy 2011.
The Veiled Lady
This marble sculpture is known as The Veiled Lady and is by the Italian Raphaelle Monti and stands in one of the beautiful rooms inside Chatsworth House.
The main hallway.
This is just above where you enter the house and on first impression it's wonderful.
The dining room
Again another beautiful room, each and every room you enter there is something that takes your eye.
I would love to have a dining room like this so we could have a table this size.
Chicken in the farmyard
As well as the house and the wonderful grounds and garden they also have a farmyard there. With lots of animals ranging from rabbits to horses there is plenty to see and at points in the day they hold petting sessions where the children can hold some of the small animals. My boys loved it here as there was also an old tractor to play on and a large adventure playground. Our boys weren't so interest in the animals because as they said "mum you have all these animals at home"...
Henry the foal
This was one of the highlights for me, this beautiful foal called Henry was only a few months old here, in fact he was born on my birthday 5th June. I so wanted to take him home to join our menagerie...
Henry again
So sweet....
Mum and her 9 piglets
Again so sweet, all having a sleep after a busy day.
Tea time....
After their sleep time for tea, one "oink" from Mum and they were all up and at the milk bar.
Looking towards The Cascade
Warriors Yue Minjun
This is part of a display that was held over the summer in the grounds of Chatsworth House.
In the cascade
A close up of one of The Warriors Yue Minjun.
Looking down the cascade
Holiday makers and dog
This is the top of The Cascade water feature and here are the holiday makers and our dog and she was very keen to jump in the water.
The house and gardens
There is alot to see here in the 1000 acre park, as well as the house there is 105 acre of garden which you can wonder around freely. There is also a maze for the children to enjoy, streams, ponds, rockeries and of course the 300 year old Cascade where many people seem to take their shoes off and walk up to the top in the water.
Another view of the house
Emperor Fountain
This is the enormous gravity-fed Emperor Fountain which they run for a few hours each day. It was built around 1844 and shoots almost to 300 feet in the air.
More of the gardens
The river and house
Chatsworth site on the east bank of the River Derwent and it's all very pretty.
A view of the house and grounds
After a lovely time spent at Chatsworth House and gardens we were driving out of the car park where we stopped to take this photo of the house and in the background you can see The Cascade water feature.
A great place to visit, we enjoyed our day, sadly the weather wasn't to kind to us, wet and dull. The children loved the grounds and the farm yard and the adults enjoyed it all.
