A few towns in Devon

This collection includes a few different towns that we visited whilst on holiday in Devon.

The seaside towns and villages along the north coast of Devon are always picturesque and whether rain or shine they always have wonderful views.

Oakhampton Station

Oakhampton Station

This is a preserved railway which for us wasn't the top of our list as all their trains are diesels but we thought we would go and have a look. What a delightful and welcoming treat awaited us. The station was beautiful, flowers everywhere, and an immaculately turned out platform.

The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our ride up the line. So if you're in Oakhampton go and have a look, we enjoyed our morning there.

After our train ride we decided to take a walk along the river and here the river flows under the old viaduct.

This photo was taken a few miles from the station and if you look closely you can see the end of the line where they had a couple of coaches sitting.

The viaduct in this photo is the old railway line but now is used as a cycle path and footpath which we did walk across but it was pouring with rain and I didn't get any good photos and it was very high!

Mud mud mud!

Mud mud mud!

This is my boys in the mud at The North Devon Show. It was held just up the road from the village we were staying at so we thought we would go and have a look. It had rained all the previous day and night and the ground had got very wet and muddy.

The show is held near Umberleigh, Devon. It's an agricultural show and there are alot of animals there. Cattle, alpacas, goats, sheep, horse show jumping and a dog show. There was also a small fair, a few vintage tractors and loads of trade stands which I made good use of. We had a really good time here despite the mud!

Croyd Beach

Croyd Beach

The sun had come out and we visited the beach area of Croyd but as we had the dog we couldn't venture on to the beach. So we walked up the hill to the coast path that over looks the very pretty bay and beach.

Father and son

This is my husband and our eldest son Jack looking across the bay. It was quite a walk up to the top of the hill and I think they needed a rest but what a great view to take in.
Making a splash

Making a splash

This is on a small bit of beach at Ilfracombe where the waves were crashing in.
Lundy Island ferry

Lundy Island ferry

The ferry runs to and from the island in the summer months and in the winter this job is taken over by the helicopter. The journey by the ferry is about 2 hours depending on tides, ports and weather.
Lundy Island

Lundy Island

This photo was taken from Ilfracombe, the Island is about 12 miles from the North Devon coast.

Lundy is 3½ miles long and ½ mile wide and has about 28 people living there, there are also 23 holiday propreties and many day trip visitors.

One day I would like to go back here and be one of those visitors.

A field of stooks

A field of stooks

Something you don't see very often so I decided to take a couple of photos.
Corn Stooks.

Corn Stooks.

Here the stooks are being dried then they will be collected and the thatcher will be putting them on a thatched roof of a house.
